I've held my DVAA ticket for seven years now and I've never got around to fishing the dove, just concentrating on the pools, but this year I was going for it. It's been over twenty years since I last fished a river when I used to fish the Trent as a young lad, so you could say I'm a little rusty

Mac picked me up at 7pm and the weather looked promising not a cloud in the sky...

Today I went with my girlfriends brother to our local ressie called Carsington Water for a days fluff chuckin. I go with him a couple of times a year and have yet to catch (I'm crap at it) Arrive at the water around 8.30 and we're soon booked in and have the boat skimming over the surface to our 1st destination.

Had the chaance of an afternoons fishing so rather than hump the carp gear around thought it a good idea to have a bash on the river, just for a change. So, armed with 1 1/2 pints of maggots I arrive at the river around 12.30pm, have a wander around and pick my swim, set up with a small maggot feeder and cast in. I was after anything that would take my bait to be honest but secretly hoped for a Grayling or 2 as it's a fish I haven't caught many of. The feeder is in the water about 3...

As a present for my birthday I was treated to a day of 'out-door pursuits' which included a mornings clay pigeon shooting followed by an afternoon's fly fishing.

I had shot when I was much younger as I grew up on a farm and thought nothing of wandering up the fields with either my 410 or 12 bore at the age of 10 or so! Can you imagine that today ...

INTRODUCTION

Not long now before I do my last carp session of the season, before I pack away the bivvy, bedchair and all that paraphanalia and focus on my usual winter quarry. My targets this year are to try and better my chub and perch PB's (would be nice to do them from the Thames). If the rivers are in a similar state to the end of the season last year, then it'll have to be (and I'd be mad not to) barbel fishing.

What none-carpy plans do you all have?

Yeah, I know it's not a coarse fish, but we don't have a 'sea fishing' section and as you can catch them on normal coarse tactics this had to be the best place to post it!!

Been waiting for this day for ages. Finally got my chance to fish on chew. 1200 acres..... Strong winds and driving rain for most of the day but still managed to have plenty of fun.

Between me and my mate we bagged 15 pike with the biggest going 15Lb and even bagged a trout.

Tactics wise, we moved areas on a regular basis and after catching a few from a spot, we moved to another spot and returned to the previous spot. This worked really well. We returned to the same spot 3 times...

New barbel PB

Popped down the Thames for a few hours this evening and within 30-40 mins of being cast in I land a new PB barbel of 10lb 14oz. Lost two more due to hook link breakages (gimp rigs as bivvy rat would say!)

have any of you had a go at night fishing for pike?

just finished reading a artical on lure fishing at night. the artical is in the february issue of pike and predators mag.
and is writen by phil blakey.

this guy knows his stuff and has opened my eyes to this type of fishing. i will be going tonight to have a go and see if i can jam a couple out.

the thing i like about it is the fact that the fish seem to be bigger and looking at mr blakey`s pics in the mag i would...

Right, ive done lots of pike fishing in my younger days on small rivers and small ponds. Although i've had nearly 150 pike, ive not had one over 14Lb. I've decided to give it a go for a bigger pike this year, would much love to catch a 20+.

I've got a water in mind but i'm up against it big time. The lake itself is only open for pike fishing for 6 weeks a year at most and you have to book a year in advance to get any chance of getting a day or 2 on there. I'll find out this...

Fishing down the river last week and bagged this on single maggot, size 20 on 2Lb line. T'was a good battle but was lucky she didnt get into the main flow as the river was in flood. She pulled the needle round to 11Lb 6oz, not massive but an unexpected but welcome visiter
