A totally different river presented itself when I arrived for another quick overnighter. The
wind, a strong west/north westerly was blowing upstream and bright sunshine blinded me as I pushed through knee high grass and sheep (OK, some of the sheep
were higher than my knees..). I chose the same spot again as once the carp are located, they tend to hang around in the same area as long as bait is
going.
Set up, cast out, put the kettle on. Once it had boiled I started to fill my mug and an alarm gave a single beep. I looked up and stupidly missed the mug, pouring boiling water all over my left hand. OUCH!!! Luckily, I had the a of cold water nearby so poured the lot over my hand...
Darkness fell over everything and the waning moon climber, in all it's brightness into a
clear night sky. That's going to slow things down! An owl glided silently by, making a detour to see if I was worth eating.
At midnight I had a single bleep again on the LH rod. At 2:30am the middle alarm screamed in
protest as something went tearing off downstream. 5 minutes later and a 13lb 14oz common was in the net, that will do nicely!
Just as dawn was breaking the rod I was trying out a new pop up mix was off and a 12lb 10oz
common splashed and dived it's way over to me.
By 6am the sun was out and all fish activity stopped so it was time to pack up, go home and roll
some more bait for the next session in a couple of days time.
