FC MEMBER Posts: 10598 (06/05/08 18:40) EXTREME CAMPER Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Tags : None Thers a swim on horseshoe that we call the snags.This swim can not be night fished and is one of 5 swims that is put aside for anglers on a dawn to dusk ticket.You can only use one rod in these swims too.If your bivvied up,you cant go in them unless you pack up,but thats just away of getting round the rule! Now the snags is what i call a sanctuary,lots of fish get down there when the lake is busy and also get in there when spawning time nears... Unfortunatley,theres one or two anglers who think its good to cast right into a gap in the snags with there one rods,its easy,clubbing seals springs to mind,these guys just cannot catch anywhere else on the lake,one guy in particular done 5 days in there on the trot,getting in there 3 hours before the office opens,which gives no one who turns up just for the day a chance Anyway,today,he goes in there and catches the big un at 45+ and 2 thirties I really hope the CS change the rule for the for the new season and close off the swim permanantly Anyone actually think its good angling?

It seems to me the guys you talk of have used what they've seen and had a result, the swim you talk of is far safer and verging on snagless compared to what it used to be, the name of the swim hasn't changed but the swim is beyond recognition of what it used to be, that little bay always has and always will be a fish magnet at certain times of the year. Why on earth the Carp Society would even consider wanting to close that swim is beyond me, let's hope they throw that thought where it belongs. Given these guys havn't broken any rules then fair play.

FC MEMBER Posts: 10599 (06/05/08 21:01) EXTREME CAMPER Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	Not sour grapes at all Clive,far from itwhat other people catch doesnt bother me one iota,nothing wrong with fishing the swim,its where they are putting the bait,was on disabled and i couldnt see the lead land it was that tight in...theres plenty of water in that swim for one rod,and also the fact people are going in there 5 days on the trot...once an angler has been in a peg he cant return in it for 5 days....i have been saying to the head bailiff for weeks that the fish are easily caught from that spot.I even spotted someone fishing over the fence with a fly outfit with the net in the peg

I would rather have my eyes scooped out with a spoon than fish somewhere Like Horseshoe and have my carping turned into a daily competition on who is catching the most from where.

In fact I did bend a few rules in my youth, so as I say, I don't have a problem with it. I do have a problem with people who fish snags in such a way as to endanger carp though, I believe it to be very, very bad angling and if this is the case at Horseshoe, and I'm not suggesting it is as I don't know the water, I would close that swim and ban angling in that area, it's never a bad idea to give the carp a safe area where they can lay up with out pressure. $id Watch out for drunken squirrels

My point is that people are fishing a swim thats been put aside for day only ticket holders,not 24hr tickets and permit holders....what is the point in doing it if they let people who have access to the swim 3-4 hours before someone can come through the gate at 9am when the office opens. Where is the merit in fishing a 'clubbing seals' spot??...ive seen one particular angler in there at least 10 days in the last month,5 on the trot.Theres a rule to stop me going back in a swim for 5 days,but this seal clubber can go in a swim 5 days on the trot Now if a permit holder or 24hr ticketer pays for a day only ticket and fishes these pegs and cant go back in the peg for 5 days after they have done a day in there i wouldnt have a problem Also,these seal clubbers wont tell you how many they have lost

I have to admit Nick, I nearly fell about laughing when I saw that. The last time I saw you and we had a chat wern't you in exactley one of those spots? And if my memory serves me well, you were indeed 'clubbing seals' in extreme numbers bearing in mind this is Carp fishing we are talking about. Come to think of it, a clubbing seal spot would also be the whole of Summer Bay as well, not to mention Boat Point,WinterPoint, Disabled Point, down in the 40's etc. That's the whole point of Horseshoe, it's a water you go to, to catch and catch well, if you wish to call it 'clubbing seals' then so be it, but it's no different when you do the same thing elsewhere on the lake. The one thing you must never forget while fishing Horseshoe is, your always fishing against other anglers before the fish. "Now,i would love to bait 1 swim up through autumn and fish it in winter,but doing 3 nights stops me going back into the swim for 24hrs after my next session starts...which sort of cocks it up" Then bait two swims, you wouldn't be the first Just as an add on, Kev , I spoke to the Horseshoe management and they are quite happy with the way those fish were caught, yes the rules were slightly bent the way the angler got in the swim with the regularity he did, but he made more effort to do what he did than any other anglers who are currently fishing the water, he never broke any rules he just made the extra effort of packing away all his overnight kit everyday and then went down to fishing with one rod in that swim and reaped the rewards. FC MEMBER Posts: 111 (12/05/08 20:34) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	clubbing seals spot??!!! so picture the scene you get to the lake and all the fish are going mad in 1 corner of the lake boshing out bubbling all the normal signs. and on the other side of the lake is compleatly dead not a sign of a fish would you honestly not go in the corner with the fish in it just because you would be clubbing seals as you say i no asactly what i would do. i go fishing with the aim of catching if i dont then so be it but im not going to pass up a chance that is sitting under my nose. all still sounds like sour grapes to me
