It was nice to be back on the lake after a long break over the summer months. My last session was back in early June and since then most weekends have been hectic with a mixture of Birthdays, Anniversaries, Grand Prixs, Holidays, and general everyday life itself. Needless to say I was itching to get back and cast the rods out. Last weekend we arrived to a reasonably busy lake, many anglers grouped into the main areas where fish were showing and had been caught in recent days at the far end and back of the wind. So rather than squeeze in between them I decided to do the opposite and fished on the wind under the rod tips with the bivvy tucked behind a bush in a bid to increase the comfort for she who must be obeyed. Out went a few kilos of Colins RLD boilies, am sure the gulls had most of them, honestly baiting up now resemble the rear end of a Grimsby trawler as soon as the catapult comes out of the bag. Early hours on Monday morning had this welcome Common at 31lb 10oz visit the bank, it was nice to be back.

Cracking common Ian, nice to see you out on the bank again, as for the gulls get down the Colne valley mate proper punishers they are.

Nice one Ian, what a nice way to kick off the 'autumn' campaign. As for the birdlife I can totally sympathise as going through similar myself. I've
found that the guls tend to struggle a bit more with 20 millers so might be worth giving that a try.

Nice result mate - always good when a decision to fish away from "the going swims" and angling pressure pays off!!!

Once again was sat quietly enjoying a very relaxed evening of fine wine and good food with my wife while watching the evening sun set on what was an
excellent days sunshine which had us catch a few rays if nothing else,

Well its fair to say im very pleased with the last few weeks on the bank.
We arrived on Friday and was surprised we had a good choice of swims, it would have been easy to go back into where I had last weeks PB as the fish were cruising and enjoying the sun in this area. A 40 had been out further along the same bank just a few days before, though most anglers felt the lake hasnt really fished well in general over the last few weeks, yet the fish that had been out had been of a good size. The actual swim of the 40 was free, always tempting but I decided against it as this would surely be the kiss of death for me, as a few fish topped in the area so I chose the next swim along as I had a nice 30 from here a few weeks ago and the swim has produced reasonably well for me over the last few years. I decided to spod out several kilos of mix made up of assorted pellet, hemp, particles and whole plus chopped RLD boilies to an area of low weed, my rig was a sliding choddy with a long supple hooklink and the RLD boilies fished snowman style settling nicely onto the weed. Few are using spod so even though I hadnt had a touch on it last week I felt it was still worth another go. The other rod was fished with the same set up over a few kilos of the RLD boilies which had produced well for me last week. After just a few hours a few single beeps and I was into a lump that plodded around among the weedbeds and i could tell from the bend in the rod it was a good fish. Once in the net and onto the mat I wasnt sure but was hoping that agin this just might be special, yes it was clearly a nice fish, but surely it wasnt going to better last weeks PB The scales settled on 35.10 and I really couldnt believe my luck as again the memorable moment was shared with my wife. 35.10 New PB ![]() ![]()
The evenings celebrations were extra special The session was backed up with commons of 28lb and 23lb. It seems the tweaking of the bait by Colin worked a treat.
